The Department of Community Services provides various programs from emergency assistance to neighborhood-based initiatives to assist all parish residents. These programs include assisting the community's poor and vulnerable populations, providing self-development opportunities, spearheading housing improvements, providing educational and social services support. Programs for adult and youth take place at the four parish community centers, and these programs include Lunch and Learn, life skills, adult enrichment programs, after school tutoring and youth symposiums.

Operates Community Based Prevention, a targeted, intensive mentoring program designed to reach youth early and prevent later involvement in the juvenile justice system. The program provides strong mentorship to youth ages 8-16 who are at-risk of becoming engaged in the juvenile justice system. Participants receive mentoring, tutoring, counseling and other wrap-around services that help them succeed at home, school and their communities.
